As an important part of the University’s “future learning space” strategy, the Dome Cinema promotes deep interdisciplinary integration across digital media, film and television arts, creative technology, artificial intelligence and engineering. It also strengthens XJTLU’s capacity to lead internationally in immersive pedagogy and the development of cross-disciplinary innovation ecosystems. The Dome Cinema will serve as a key platform for cross-school collaboration among faculty, interdisciplinary teamwork among students, and innovation practice across different fields, further reinforcing the University’s forward-looking position in future-oriented education and technological advancement.
With its strong real-time rendering and spatial visualisation capabilities, the Dome Cinema enables complex systems, macro structures and multidimensional data to be understood and analysed in immersive ways. Its advanced audio-visual environment also provides an international-standard venue for artistic performances, public engagement and cultural communication.
The launch of this facility not only demonstrates XJTLU’s global leadership in immersive technology, digital visualisation and future education innovation, but will also continue to support the University in setting new international benchmarks in research ecosystem development, industry collaboration and future talent cultivation.

Dome Immersive Cinema launched
The Academy of Film and Creative Technology at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University has officially launched the world’s first fully integrated Dome Immersive Cinema in a university setting at the XEC campus, bringing together industry, education, research and creative practice. The completion of this facility marks a major step forward for the Academy in future learning environments and immersive technological innovation at an internationally leading level. At its core is a 338.5-square-metre immersive audio-visual space, equipped with LED self-emissive display technology to deliver high brightness, strong contrast and exceptional visual consistency, creating a new platform for cutting-edge education and research.
The Dome Cinema features an 18-metre-diameter, 8K ultra-high-resolution dome projection system, combined with a 110° × 180° panoramic field of view and an immersive surround sound environment. Together, these elements create a three-dimensional immersive space that extends beyond the boundaries of conventional teaching environments. Whether for scientific data visualisation, engineering simulation, digital arts creation, or the modelling of future urban and industrial scenarios, the facility enables high-precision presentation through world-leading immersive technology.
