Dr. Wang received a Bachelor degree in Basic Medicine from Beijing Medical University (now Health Science Center of Peking University) and a PhD degree in pathophysiology from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences. After postdoc training in the Second Military Medical University and the University of Iowa (1996-2003), he started his career track in the University of Iowa, Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, Soochow University, Xiamen University and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University sequentially. His research is to understand the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis or treatment of diseases from the viewpoints of basic medical scientists. He published over 50 SCI-indexed papers in international journals plus over 50 papers in non-SCI-indexed journals covering immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, pharmacology (disciplines in sense of basic medicine), or hematology, oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, autoimmune diseases (disciplines in clinical medicine). He also published two books and got nine patents. He is member of several journal editorial boards or academic societies. He enjoys working innovative theories though not all of them are fully confirmed. For example, he first brought up the hypothesis of dendritic cells mediating immunological memory, till now evidence only accumulated to confirm that dendritic cells might mediate a memory-like immune response. He started studies on the functions of the gene MXRA7 and disclosed the clues to the significance of this gene in biomedical processes. His team has won several awards from Chinese agents or international academic societies.

Research interests
As a basic medical scientist, I have strong faith in the ethic of INTEREST-DRIVEN research, so I did not restrict my research in any specific fields. My past studies covered immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, pharmacology, etc (disciplines in basic medical sciences), or hematology, oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, autoimmune diseases, etc (disciplines in clinical medicine). Currently, my team is working on the following projects.
Immunology: infection immunology, like viral infection mechanisms (key words include FlgE, SARS-CoV-2, NLRP3, etc).
Molecular and Cellular Biology: characterization of biology and functions of novel genes (eg MXRA7), or novel functions of "old" genes (eg. ectopic ATP synthase)
Ophthalmology: physiology of eye science, pathogenesis and experimental therapy of ocular diseases, etc. Ongoing projects covers dry eye, CGT of plasminogen-deficiency-caused ligneous conjunctivitis, engineered corneas, etc.
Cancer biology: mainly in the cancer-platelet interactions.
