Accreditations and Test Centres
Two centres within the Hub – the English Language Centre (ELC) and the Modern Languages Centre (MLC) – have prestigious accreditations that reflect our commitment to academic rigor and student success.
We’re proud to say that the ELC was the first English for Academic Purposes (EAP) provider outside of the UK to receive accreditation from the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP). The ELC also holds “validated” status from the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) for its undergraduate credit-bearing modules and postgraduate Presessional English (PSE).
The MLC also holds CIOL “validated” status for all its undergraduate modules in Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese, and serves as an official HSK Test Centre, supporting students in achieving recognised proficiency in Chinese.
Mission and Vision
The Global Cultures and Languages Hub is home to three dynamic centres: the Academic Literacies Centre (ALC), the English Language Centre (ELC), and the Modern Languages Centre (MLC). With over 250 language lecturers from around the world, the Hub delivers credit-bearing modules and a range of short courses in four languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish.
At the heart of the Hub’s mission is a commitment to fostering intercultural communication, enhancing language proficiency, providing immersive cultural experiences, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence to enrich teaching and learning.
We aim to create an inclusive and transformative educational environment where students develop not only language skills but also the cultural competence and adaptability needed to achieve their academic and professional goals in an interconnected world.
