2024 JAPANESE LANGUAGE SUMMER COURSE

In June 2024, the Modern Languages Centre of XJTLU will run two-week Japanese language summer courses. The course includes Japanese language learning, workshops, and experiences related to Japanese culture.

Through this course, your teachers will do their best to help you improve your communication skills, cultural sensitivity and confidence in the Japanese language.

Course date

Date: 17 (Mon) – 28 (Fri) June 2024 [2 weeks]

Time: 5 hours per day

Course level

Beginner class:

For learners at JPL002, 003, or equivalent level.

Capacity: 15 students (first-come-first-served basis)

Learning outcomes of beginner class:

• Can understand simple sentences and frequently used expressions related to familiar everyday topics when spoken in Japanese.
• Can recognize short, simple texts containing familiar vocabulary written in Japanese.
• Can use Japanese to describe past events and future plans, ask and answer simple questions, and communicate orally on familiar and routine matters.
• Can use Japanese to write about themselves and familiar everyday topics using simple structures.

Intermediate class:

For learners at JPL004, 005, 006, 007 or equivalent level.

Capacity: 15 students (first-come-first-served basis)

Learning outcomes of intermediate class:

• Can listen to and understand simple Japanese spoken by native speakers on Japanese culture.
• Can read and understand texts on a variety of distinctive Japanese cultural activities.
• Can talk and share one’s own experiences and knowledge on culture-related topics with others.
• Can find interesting cultural topics and express them in Japanese texts.

Language Course: 90-minute * 20 lessons

Culture experience session: 120-minute * 10 lessons

Students who have attended 80% of the lessons and have met the criteria will receive a certificate.

Application period: 13 March —10 May 2024.
