Jia Meng


Jia Meng received his bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnic University in 2006. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2011. He joined Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Feb 2012 as a Bioinformatician and the Supervisor of Bioinformatics Core Facility at Picower Institute for Learning and Memory. Between 2012 and 2014, he served as an Associate Scientist at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. He is now an Senior Associate Professor at Department of Biological Sciences, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and has an honorary appointment from Institute of Integrative Biology, University of Liverpool. Jia Meng has previously worked on a wide variety of computational biology projects that aim at a system level understanding of gene regulation and the integration of multiple high-throughput data types and databases with advanced multivariate techniques, such as, Bayesian generative modeling, sparse representation, factorization, nonparametric approaches, etc. He has authored (or co-authored) more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, and is currently primarily focusing on epitranscriptome bioinformatics.

孟佳毕业于西北工业大学航海学院并获得测控技术与仪器专业工学学士学位(2006),在美国德克萨斯大学圣安东尼奥分校获得电子工程学硕士学位(2008)和博士学位(2011),并短暂从事博士后研究工作。孟佳于2012年加入美国麻省理工学院皮卡尔学习与记忆研究所,任生物信息分析师、生物信息支持中心主管, 同时兼任美国麻省理工与哈佛大学联合伯德研究院副科研员。 孟佳于2013年全职加入西交利物浦大学生物科学系,先后任讲师、副教授,现任高级副教授、博士生导师,兼任英国利物浦大学生命科学学院的博士生导师。孟佳长期从事生物信息数据特别是高通量数据的分析和研究工作,专注于利用数学和统计方法系统性的理解基因调控过程,开发新的数据分析方法和工具。已发表论文专著等90余篇,主研或参与包括国家自然基金在内的各类科研基金项目十余个。孟佳先后入选江苏省双创计划,江苏省六大人才高峰项目和苏州市优秀教育工作者等高层次人才培养计划和荣誉。

    • Epitranscriptomics & RNA Epigenetics: post-transcriptional RNA modifications, such as 5-MethylCytosine and N6-MethylAdenosine, including their roles under diseases condition (cancer genesis, virus infection, etc.), the specificity of RNA methylation-related enzymes (methyltransferases and demethylases), and epitranscriptome-related drug screen strategy.
    • Bioinformatics: data mining and visualization technique, information enquiries and sharing with database development, web-based bioinformatics application development
    • Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition: clustering and classification methods, network association study, High performance computing with parallel computation (R/MATLAB/Scripting)
