Professor Stuart Perrin is Professor of Education in the Academy of Future Education, Executive Editor of the journal Future Education, and Director of Global Outreach and Community at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He took up these roles in August 2026, following his service as Chief Officer of Ecology. In his current roles, he contributes to teaching and research in future education, leads the editorial development of Future Education, and supports the development of the University’s global identity and international profile.
Professor Perrin joined XJTLU in August 2012 as Director of the Language Centre. He subsequently served as Dean of Learning and Teaching, combining the role with his leadership of the Language Centre, where he oversaw English, Chinese and Spanish language provision and the development of writing support across the University. He later became XJTLU’s inaugural Dean of International Affairs, with responsibility for the University’s internationalisation agenda, including the appointment and development of international faculty.
In 2019, Professor Perrin was appointed Associate Principal of XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang), where he played a key role in the development of the new campus, its seven industry-themed schools and XJTLU’s Syntegrative Education model. He subsequently served as Chief Officer of Ecology before taking up his current roles in August 2026.
Professor Perrin was the first Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) appointed at XJTLU. Before joining XJTLU, he worked at a number of higher education institutions in London and private education providers in the UK.
His research interests include academic literacies and their application in international universities, English as a lingua franca, second language acquisition and identity, and writing across the curriculum (WAC). His more recent work has also engaged with future education, educational innovation and emerging models of higher education.
