New staff member in the Department of Civil Engineering: Dr Wei Zhang

June 10, 2020

The Department of Civil Engineering at XJTLU is happy to welcome Dr Wei Zhang as our new staff member. With her experiences, she makes an excellent addition to the existing team. Having her on board, the Department is able to further improve the teaching quality, expand the faculty capacity, and provide excellent education for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Dr Wei Zhang

Lecturer

Joined XJTLU since:

I started working in the Department of Civil Engineering since April 2020. At the moment, I have no teaching task this seminar, but I’m preparing the course materials and getting familiar with the teaching system. Colleagues and students here are very kind and friendly. I look forward to meet all of them as soon as possible.

Modules taught:

CEN 205 Hydraulics

CEN 405 Sustainable drainage systems

CEN 210 Water resources engineering

Professional experience:

I started my career here at XJTLU after PhD. I worked in an international laboratory during my PhD study, and I found that different cultural backgrounds and experiences allow teachers and researchers think differently. Communication skills and collaborative spirit in an international environment are also very important, especially in the engineering design and research domain.

Research interest:

My main research interest is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which needs collaboration between mathematics, mechanics and computer coding. Students with different backgrounds can participate in and work together on this interesting topic. I would also like to discover international academic collaborations opportunities in the future.

Thoughts on the Department of Civil Engineering and XJTLU:

XJTLU is younger than other universities. Comparison with traditional Chinese University, the Department of Civil Engineering is smaller in the quantity of students and teachers, but with very nice facilities.
