Video: A Taste of Summer

25 Aug 2021

Students from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University created this video to introduce traditional Chinese treats that can beat the summer heat.

In the dog days of summer, many Chinese people use mung bean recipes to cope with the scorching temperatures. Mung beans are considered to have a cooling effect. For example, the mung bean soup presented in the video is a popular summer dish in Jiangsu province; Suzhou mung bean soup includes more ingredients such as mint and preserved fruit.

This video is the second in a series that explores local customs, history, and lifestyle. Ruotong Jia, Jingyi Zhang, and Baoyi Wang, all current students in BA Media and Communication Studies, along with Jingyi Yang majored in BA English and Communication Studies, directed and filmed the video.

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has sparked and supported the students’ creativity.
