The Department of Architecture at XJTLU is excited to welcome new staff member Leyuan Jiang, who has worked as a professional architect in world leading architectural offices such as Zaha Hadid Architects for many years.
Having him on board, the Department is able to further improve the teaching quality, expand the faculty capacity, and provide excellent education for our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Career
Before coming to XJTLU, I’ve worked as a professional architect in world leading architectural offices such as Zaha Hadid Architects for many years, and I’ve participated in part-time teaching in several educational groups as well.
The reason I chose architecture as my profession, first of all, is because of interest. Architecture can be massive objects that exist in the world, and people inevitably have to interact with them one way or another. In addition, the spaces provided by architecture may also be very different, all of which will hugely effect people’s behavior and microenvironment of the city. The curiosity of exploration is my main motivation.

Research interests
My research mainly focuses on parametric design and human-Robot collaborated digital manufacturing on improving construction accuracy and efficiency. I’m also interested in virtual experience, Building Information Modelling (BIM), building performance, and robotic design.
I hope to propose potentials and test feasibilities for integrating new technologies in design and fabrication for the academic and research community with my research. For everyday people, I hope to free heavy-duty labor, reduce repetitive work, and improve efficiency.
In the future, I hope to explore more new technologies such as VR, AR, and AI in helping design and construction, and furthermore, changing the way of interaction and the perception of the world.

Reason to join XJTLU
XJTLU’s Department of Architecture has a very open and welcome environment, it is diverse and dynamic. The research-led positioning of the university and its huge support for research has been the biggest attractive matter for me.
Advice for students
Architecture is beautiful, sometimes very artistic, sometimes super technical. Architecture is so complex that everyone can find his/her interest. Believe in yourself, stick to it and maintain curiosity.
