Headline: Study identifies potential target for reversing drug resistance in ovarian cancer
Published on: 5 September 2023

Summary: In a recent study, a team of researchers from China and the UK were able to reduce the growth of cisplatin-resistant tumours in female mice by decreasing the activity of a gene called superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1).

The study extends previous work on ovarian cancer cells that showed cisplatin-resistant tumour cells had high levels of SOD1 as a result of damage induced by cisplatin treatment side effects. The results suggested that reducing SOD1 levels can stop cells from becoming resistant to the chemotherapeutic drug.

Professor Mu Wang, from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, is the corresponding author of the paper.
