IBSS Named a UN PRME Champion for Second Consecutive Year

January 18, 2024

On the 17th of January, the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact, introduced the highly esteemed cohort of PRME Champions for the 2024-2025 term. International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) has been selected as a Champion School for two consecutive years.

As a 2023 UN Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) Champion, the first and only in the country, IBSS is dedicated to creating significant impacts in Responsible Management Education (RME) across China. The school has developed award-winning sustainability initiatives, maintained leadership in RME through its research centres, and is committed to action when it comes to both dialogue and action on the UN Sustainability Development Goals. With these visions in mind, IBSS achieved this honour once more in the 2024-2025 term.

This cohort comprises 47 PRME Signatory Members who have demonstrated impactful contributions in thought leadership as well as actionable initiatives. Each institution was selected by the PRME Secretariat from a diverse and competitive pool of applicants.

The PRME Champions represent a group of dedicated business and management schools from across the PRME community that are committed to working collaboratively to develop and promote activities that address shared barriers for the PRME community, and which deliver value for business and society at large. Previous collaborations by PRME Champions include the Climate Literacy Training for Business Schools, the Blueprint for SDG Integration and its extended library, and more.

The focus of the 2024-2025 Champions cycle will be on advancing the re-commitment to the refreshed Seven Principles of PRME; engagement in Thematic Roundtables for generating ideas and solutions to institutional challenges within business schools that support the PRME strategy; and aligning with the vision of the United Nations Global Compact in completing actions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, the 2024-2025 Champions will be essential in curating content to contribute to PRME Commons - the upcoming digital space for accountability, exchanges and learning between members of the PRME community. Additional outputs from the Champions Programme will be determined by the cohort’s collaborative agenda, and the PRME community eagerly anticipates high impact from the group.

The PRME Champions Programme stands as a premier initiative, allowing faculty members to not only develop and share collaborative educational approaches but also serve as a 'living lab' for pioneering ideas to advance the next generation of sustainability-driven business schools and management-focused higher education institutions in support of the SDGs.

IBSS became a PRME signatory in 2013, an advanced signatory in 2019, and a key founding member of the PRME China Chapter in 2021. It is the school’s mission to create a positive impact and advance sustainable development in China and eventually, around the globe.
