Overview

The PhD in Education is provided by the Academy of Future Education (AoFE) and HeXie Academy (HeXie) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. The programme will facilitate your research in educational studies and help you make a contribution to knowledge in education.

Academy of Future Education (AoFE)

PhD students at AoFE will work with an experienced supervisory research team to explore a wide range of topics, including educational management and administration, child development and education, technologies in education, teaching and learning innovation, and pedagogies.

Pursuing a full-time PhD typically involves three years of conducting research and one year of writing a thesis, supported by subject-specific and general skills training and development. A full-time PhD student must submit their thesis within four years (or six years for part-time PhD students).

HeXie Academy (HeXie)

PhD students at HeXie Academy will focus on the educational innovation ecosystem based on HeXie Management Theory, including aspects of HeXie education and educational innovation ecosystem, educational technology and innovation, talent ecosystem strategy, life-long learning and digital literacy education, succession and family education, senior education, industrial talent skills and vocational education, sustainable education, social innovation and entrepreneurship education, and special education.

  • The PhD degree is awarded by the University of Liverpool in the UK. The degree is recognised by the UK Department of Education as well as China’s Ministry of Education;
  • As a registered full-time PhD student, you have the opportunity to apply for a research visit to the University of Liverpool for up to six months. Your accommodation and travel costs will be covered by XJTLU and the University of Liverpool;
  • The programme enrols both full-time and part-time students;
  • Every PhD student will be supervised by a team of experts, with at least one supervisor from XJTLU and one supervisor from the University of Liverpool;
  • All PhD students studying at XJTLU are eligible to apply for Teaching Assistant positions to enhance their teaching skills and academic capacities; and
  • XJTLU has an internationalised campus and English-medium instruction.

Each academic year includes two application rounds for PhD candidates’ proposed projects.
