MRES MANAGEMENT

The MRes Management provides you with a solid understanding of what constitutes research in the fields of business and management and how that research is undertaken.

Management

Overview

The MRes Management will develop students with an understanding and critical appreciation of aspects of research in the field of business and management, such as research paradigms, research methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative), data collection techniques, and theories. It will equip students with a clear understanding of what constitutes quality research and familiarize them with the research process from the point of inception to project completion.

The overall goal of the programme is to develop well-trained researchers with the ability to identify potential areas for research and the knowledge to study them. Consequently, the MRes Management can act as an obvious pathway for students who wish to study for a PhD. Indeed, the degree is one part of a strategy in which IBSS will identify talented students and encourage them to apply for an IBSS PhD. By so doing, the school will continue to develop both its research capacity and high-quality researchers.

Knowledge and skills

The MRes Management will enable a student to:

  • develop an in-depth knowledge of the elements which constitute research;
  • develop an in-depth knowledge of the research process and its under-pinning logic;
  • acquire research skills by undertaking a study as part of the dissertation module;
  • improve understanding of the structure of research papers and how they are written; and
  • improve written and presentation skills.

Based on my own experiences, I know only too well how frustrating and confusing it can be to understand research. However, here at IBSS, I am pleased to say that we have developed a degree which provides you with a clear understanding about the nature of research and how it can be undertaken. We have assembled a small group of lecturers who will help you to develop this understanding, with your learning taking place in a relaxed and friendly environment. At IBSS, we have excellent facilities, so if you would like to learn more about the MRes Management, or have any questions, then please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
