Who Is This Programme For?
This programme is particularly suitable for who play an important role in teaching, learning, or supporting student learning at XJTLU:
- PhD students with some or no formal teaching responsibilities
- Professional services staff supporting teaching and/or learning, such as lab technicians, learning technologists, and development advisors.
Professional Recognition
Successful participants will be awarded Associate Fellowship of Advance HE (AFHEA), an internationally recognised benchmark of professional practice in higher education teaching and learning.
The programme is aligned with the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) and supports participants in developing evidence-based teaching practices, reflective skills, and professional values relevant to their roles.
Programme Structure, Delivery and Assessment
The programme currently consists of a single core module PGC407: Learning, Teaching and Assessment for Associate Fellowship and a number of instructional skills development and training.
Double delivery in both Autumn and Spring semesters, primarily face-to-face.
- Portfolio-based case study (50%)

Programme Overview
The Postgraduate Certificate in Foundations of Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education is designed to support early-career academics and professional staff who are beginning to engage with teaching and learning in higher education, or who support teaching and learning in professional roles.
This programme provides an accessible and practice-oriented entry point into professional recognition in higher education teaching and learning, leading to the award of Associate Fellowship of Advance HE (AFHEA) upon successful completion.
This combination of theory-informed learning and practice-based development supports participants in building confidence and competence in teaching and supporting learning in higher education.
