The School has been developing its research strength in humanities and social sciences with particular focus on Chinese perspectives and interactions with the rest of the world, with the long-term goal to become a leading university in China in the humanities and social sciences. The prioritised research areas of the School include but are not limited to:

  • social changes in China
  • Jiangnan region’s interaction with the rest of China and the world
  • the Belt and Road Initiative
  • China’s cultural interaction with the world
  • media and communication activities

The School currently publishes an academic journal with Liverpool University Press: International Journal of English for Academic Purposes: Research and Practice (IJEAP).

The School organises an annual international conference on cutting-edge research themes in the field of humanities and social sciences. The School also organises both collective and collaborative research activities and runs humanities and social sciences research seminars throughout the year.
