Dr. Fei MA is a Professor of Applied Mathematics, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He obtained his undergraduate degree in computational mathematics from Xiamen University in 1999. He was recommended for graduate study in Xiamen University the same year under the supervisor of Professor Linzhang Lu. He obtained his Master degree in computational mathematics in 2002, while he also won the title of Excellent Graduate of Xiamen University. He then joined Shenzhen Kingdee Software Co., Ltd. as a software engineer. In 2004, he started his PhD study in Applied Mathematics in Flinders University of Australia, under the supervision of Dr. Murk J. Bottema. In 2004 he won the Drake Food Markets Scholarship from Flinders Medical Centre. After he obtained his Ph.D. in 2008, he worked as a mathematics lecturer as well as a research fellow in Flinders University. In 2009, he joined Symbion, Australia's second largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, as an analyst of national inventory center, responsible for inventory analysis, forecasting and replenishment for more than 3000 branches around Australia.
Dr. Fei Ma returned to China and joined Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in 2012, where he has served in multiple roles, including the group head of Mathematics and Physics centre (2016-2017), acting head of Mathematical Sciences department (2017-2018), deputy head of Mathematical Sciences department (2018-2019), dean of research and graduate studies of XJTLU (2019-2021). In 2021 he helped to establish the XJTLU-JITRI academy of Industrial Technology and was appointed as the first executive dean of the academy while he was also the dean of research and graduate studies.
Dr. Fei Ma’s research interests include medical and biomedical image analysis, particularly on computer aided breast cancer diagnosis with mammogram and chromosome image analysis; pattern recognition; medical big data; inventory forecasting; and nonnegative matrices. He has published over 50 international journal and conference papers, and has been the PI, co-PI and member of more than 20 external research grants. He was the founder and the first director of the intelligent computing and fintech lab. He was also a member of standing committee of China Higher Education Society Educational Mathematics Committee, a board member of Cambricon Fintech Research Institute, and a member of China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics （CSIAM）Financial Technology and Algorithm Professional Committee (Preparatory).
