Abstract
To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, together with the launch of the Academy of Film and Creative Technology, a series of activities will be held from 22nd May to 28th May, including the first MEGA Creative Media Festival and the First Film, New Media and Creative Technology Summit.
The establishment of the Academy of Film and Creative Technology (AFCT) is an innovative response to the government, industry and societys’ call to re-think the role of universities, as demonstrated by the Syntegrative Education initiative. It also serves as the universities’ response to provincial, national and international initiatives to revitalize cultural and creative industries through valued partnerships, with creativity at its core.
The Academy of Film and Creative Technology is designed to be multi-locational, with development currently envisaged in three phases. The first phase focuses on existing resources within the university, combining the School of Film and TV Arts - located in SIP - and the School of Cultural Technology - located in Taicang – into one entity. The second phase focuses on the development of the XJTLU-Enlight Film School, located in Yangzhou. The third phase concentrates on the creation of an Institute of Culture and Creativity, which will be both an online and onsite Institute, with potential locations including the Great Bay Area, and other centres of creativity within China.
Currently, the first MEGA Creative Media Festival organized by the Academy of Film and Creative Technology aims to provide a platform for young practitioners working in the film, media and creative industries to communicate; demonstrate; explore; encourage and promote excellent works of art, which will provide a young and powerful talent pool for the creative media industries. The name MEGA combines the meaning of media, exhibition, graphics and arts. The theme of the first MEGA Creative Media Festival is Fantasia which will be held at AS Building of XJTLU.
