Since 2010, the Summer Social Practice programme at Xi’an Jiatong-Liverpool University has enabled students to take part in various volunteering and research projects during the summer holiday.
“Generally, we do not impose limitations on the types of the social practice,” said Yunpeng Xiang from the Student Affairs Office that oversees the programme. “Previous projects have been in the areas of support for schools in China, overseas volunteer projects, research about social problems, and academic research relevant to students’ degrees”
A total of 1200 students dressed in yellow and green t-shirts attended the launching ceremony. XJTLU vice president Dr Minzhu Yang said in his opening speech: “You should put what you have learned into practice, and know how to use that knowledge to contribute to society.”
