SIGNING OF A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) FOR IAMCR’S 2022 CONFERENCE

The Department of Media and Communication of School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), together with Tsing Hua University, and International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at XJTLU in July to create global academic dialogue.

The MOU reaffirms the long-standing partnership among the three academic organisations. It aims to leverage the advantages of all the three parties to promote academic exchange and international cooperation in media and communication.

Prior to signing the MOU, the Acting Head of Department of Media and Communication at XJTLU, Dr Tabe Bergman expressed the desire of a continuing cooperation.

“The Department of Media and Communication is looking forward to deepening its engagement with the global scholarly community,”

“We relish the opportunity to assist IAMCR members in coming together in Beijing and Suzhou next year to continue ongoing conversations on media and communication, and initiate much-needed new ones,” he said.

Prof. Xiaoling Zhang, Head of Department, also highly value the opportunity of bringing XJTLU into this international academic cooperation and exchange at its 15th anniversary.

“XJTLU is delighted and honored to be co-hosting the 2022 conference. As a young and growing university, celebrating its 15th birthday, XJTLU has made significant strides over the past years,” she said.

Postponed by the outbreak of COVID-19, the redesigned online and online/offline hybrid conference are of great significance to the upcoming IAMCR 2022.

Prof. Nico Carpentier, the President of IAMCR, said: “It is destined to be the most special and meaningful one, the hybrid conference will shed light on both IAMCE and the future conference organisers.”

“It is believed that IAMCR 2022 will bring together different voices in the field of global media and communication, providing participants with a unique opportunity to redefine and enrich media and communication studies in the post-epidemic era.” Stated Prof Changfeng Chen, Director of Center for Journalism Studies at Tsinghua University.

The signing of the MOU witnessed the cooperation among XJTLU, IAMCR, and Tsinghua University with commitment and shared aspiration. All three organisations expressed the confidence in making the conference a great success.

Dr Bergman added: “It will be the event of the year, we look forward to welcoming you in 2022.”
