Advanced Semiconductor Research Centre

Advanced Semiconductor Research Centre

Overview

The Advanced Semiconductor Research Center (ASRC) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is jointly established by XJTLU, the National Centre of Technology Innovation for Advanced Semiconductors (Suzhou), and the China advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance (CASA,Beijing).  It serves as an influential international research platform in the field of wide-bandgap semiconductors. Leveraging the unique advantages of XJTLU as a Sino-foreign cooperative university, the center is committed to building an interdisciplinary, cross-campus international hub for collaborative innovation.

The ASRC closely aligns with national strategies and local industrial demands, focusing on core technology R&D in wide-bandgap semiconductor electronic device design, fabrication, and integration. With laboratory space exceeding 2,000 square meters and equipment investment nearing 60 million RMB, the center has established comprehensive R&D capabilities covering the entire chain from “design-process-testing-application.” To date, it has undertaken more than 20 major national and provincial-level research projects, including the National Key R&D Program, with research areas extending to cutting-edge applications such as industrial motor drives, satellite communications, and new energy vehicles.

To deepen industry-academia-research integration, the ASRC actively explores diverse collaborative models, including commissioned technical challenges, joint laboratories, innovation consortiums, and corporate entities. These efforts have established effective mechanisms for synergistic research on critical technologies. The center has filed 47 invention patent applications, effectively promoting the transformation and application of technological achievements and demonstrating robust collaborative innovation capabilities.

By bringing together a multidisciplinary and international R&D team and cultivating high-end talent through an “industry-academia integration” model, the ASRC is dedicated to fostering a virtuous cycle of “talent cultivation-technological innovation-industrial empowerment.” It provides solid support for the independent, controllable, and innovative development of China’s semiconductor industry.

Introduction to Collaborative Units

  • National Centre of Technology Innovation for Advanced Semiconductors (Suzhou)

Approved by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, the centre is a national R&D platform dedicated to achieving full-chain breakthroughs in core technologies such as gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC). By integrating top-tier research institutes and industry leaders, the centre drives the industrial application of third-generation semiconductors in new energy, next-generation communications, and other critical fields, supporting China’s Dual Carbon strategy and the transformation of high-end manufacturing.

  • China Advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance (CASA, Beijing)

CASA is a national industrial collaboration organisation jointly established by leading enterprises and research institutions, focusing on formulating key technology standards, fostering industrial chain innovation, and enhancing global competitiveness. By leading the publication of industry white papers and advancing international technical cooperation, CASA builds an open ecosystem, supporting the independent and controllable development of China’s semiconductor industry.
