Features of XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang)

Features

Based on the philosophy of Syntegrative Education, XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) has some unique features as below.

Professional Development Arrangements (internships)

Within the Syntegrative Education model at XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang), the internship model uniquely offers students the opportunity to engage with companies and business for 600 hours, evenly spread between three sets of 200 hours, which build on knowledge gained by the students through the academic year.

Students’ adaptability to work in fast paced, rapidly changing future careers will be enhanced through the syntegration of general, specialised, industry, management and entrepreneurship education. Specifically speaking,

  • In summer between Year 1 and Year 2, the internship is about job-shadowing with a combination of taught elements to prepare for the internship delivered by industry partners and Taicang academic staff, business English classes and focused job-shadowing in industries.
  • In summer between Year 2 and Year 3, the internship will be mainly about practicum/problem-solving around real-life projects provided by industry partners. Joint supervision of an industry mentor and an academic advisor will assist students in learning problem-based solutions.
  • In summer between Year 3 and Year 4, the minimum requirement of 200 hours is set as a threshold to accommodate the variety of placement experiences, work, and/or research. Moreover, with the internship provider’s agreement, students may extend their work for longer than the minimum of 200 hours in order to satisfy both their practical obligations and the requirements of the University.

Co-delivery by academia and industry lecturers

The industry partners participate in many aspects.

Industry partners will assign senior industry experts to participate in the delivery of teaching, co-design courses, provide the actual projects and cases for teaching so that theoretical knowledge will be embedded into the practical training. Industry partners will also provide support in labs, facilities and other resources. Industry partners and XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) will co-establish labs, R&D platform and learning mall on campus.

Industry partners will send mentors who will work together with our academic staff to provide training and instructions for student’s internship and career development. Industry partners will work together with XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) on the establishment of master programmes and PhD programmes. We’ll also collaborate on industrial or the third party accreditation.
