    Teaching Assistants

    Teaching Assistants

    To meet the teaching demands for the upcoming semester, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is now recruiting Teaching Assistants (TAs) across various Schools/Academies. Detailed job postings and application instructions are available on the recruitment page of each School/Academy, listed as follows.

    TA duties include:

    • Laboratory demonstration and support for practical work in the classroom;
    • Attendance on and support with field courses;
    • Group tutoring;
    • Scheduled office hours for one-to-one tutoring;
    • Invigilation of formal examinations and/or class tests;
    • Marking of formative assignments with appropriate training; and
    • Other appropriate activities as determined by academic units.

    Specific responsibilities are detailed in the TA advertisements posted on each School/Academy page as follows.

    Skills and knowledge required:

    • Proficient spoken and written English;
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent presentation skills, and skillful in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
    • Be adaptable and open to change; and
    • Previous TA working experience preferred.

    TA training:

    The XJTLU Graduate School will coordinate with the Educational Development Unit (EDU) of the Academy of Future Education to offer a series of TA training sessions to all incoming TAs. These sessions aim to equip students with essential teaching theories, methods, and practical skills. Upon completion of all training sessions, participants will receive a TA Training Certificate, enabling them to officially take on TA roles. This certificate can also enhance students’ future career development.

    TA pay rates for Academic Year 2025-26:

    • XJTLU Doctoral students: ¥60/hour (before tax)
    • XJTLU Master’s students: ¥50/hour (before tax)
    • Non-XJTLU Master’s/Doctoral students: ¥50/hour (before tax)

    Note: XJTLU full scholarship PhD students are required to fulfill TA duties as part of their scholarship conditions. TA work completed during the scholarship period will not be compensated.

     

    Application procedures:

    For XJTLU postgraduate students:

    1. Visit the TAMS website at https://ta.xjtlu.edu.cn.
    2. Submit your application online. To increase your chances of acceptance, it is recommended to apply for TA roles related to your field of study.

    For other students:

    1. Check the TA positions of XJTLU School/Academy to review specific qualifications and requirements.
    2. Submit your application materials to the contact email address listed by the relevant School/Academy. Your application should include:
        • CV;
        • Cover letter or statement of interest; and
        • Letters of recommendation (if required).

      Please ensure all documents are complete and adhere to the school/academy’s requirements.

    3. After confirmation with the School/Academy, you can proceed to apply for TA positions on the TAMS website.
