Offered by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of International Studies runs a suite of degree programmes –from undergraduate to doctoral levels– that prepare students to engage with a rapidly changing world by taking a global perspective. The BA in International Relations is a four-year, interdisciplinary programme (international politics, development, area studies) designed to deepen understanding of global affairs. The programme offers students the opportunity to study a semester abroad at one of our many partners universities, plus a dual degree from XJTLU and University of Liverpool.
At the graduate level, the MA in International Relations develops analytical, policy-oriented and research skills, enabling students to explore global governance, foreign policy, security, globalisation, and regional cooperation — with a distinct emphasis on China’s evolving international role. Alternatively, the MA in International Business and Global Affairs (offered jointly with the AACSB- and EQUIS-accredited International Business School Suzhou) is tailored to those who wish to bridge global business and international affairs, equipping future leaders with the tools to navigate global economic and political complexities.
For students pursuing advanced research, the PhD in International Relations offers a supportive, interdisciplinary environment under the joint supervision of XJTLU and the University of Liverpool — ideal for in-depth work in areas such as international security, diplomacy, political economy, regional studies, and global development.
