13 Sep 2024

The BSc Environmental Science programme at XJTLU’s School of Science has recently received accreditation from the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES), UK, through its Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE).

Upon accreditation, BSc Environmental Science students will receive free IES membership with access to a wealth of resources, including career development support, the latest industry trends, exclusive content, events, study materials and more.

It also ensures the students meet the academic requirements for a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP), helping them become globally recognised environmental scientists.

About the organisation

IES is recognised worldwide for its influence in the field of environmental sciences.

CEDHE, as its educational committee, accredits bachelor’s and master’s programmes worldwide. It aims to improve the quality of environmental education through high standards, a wide range of practical, field and theoretical content, training opportunities, work experience, and access to professional environmental departments.

So far, the organisation has 180 accredited programmes across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Expert insights

Professor John Moraros, Dean of the School of Science, says the accreditation is a testament to the quality and international recognition of the BSc Environmental Science programme.

“This prestigious international accreditation recognises our current accomplishments and is a powerful endorsement that will propel us forward. It reflects our collective efforts and sets a new benchmark for the impact we can achieve in the Department of Health and Environmental Sciences, School of Science, and XJTLU on a global scale.

“The accreditation opens up numerous opportunities for us. It enhances our ability to recruit and attract high-calibre students and academic staff, strengthens our research outcomes, and positions us as a key partner for industry collaborations and a leader in the field both locally and internationally,” he says.

Dr Lei Han, Programme Director of BSc Environmental Science, says: “With our programme now achieving international accreditation and building a network with other academic communities, the Department of Health and Environmental Sciences, School of Science, and XJTLU become part of a globally leading ecosystem that champions environmental disciplines both academically and professionally. This ensures that our educational courses and curriculum are enhanced and up-to-date, offering employability opportunities and clear career development paths for our students.”

In addition to the IES accreditation, the BSc Applied Chemistry and BSc Biological Sciences programmes at XJTLU’s School of Science also received accreditation respectively from the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Biology, both in the UK.
