HeXie Management Theory

Introducing HeXie Management Theory

The basic idea of HeXie Management Theory believes that human activities are uncertain, diverse, and involves multiple meanings, evolve with the limited intervention, and the evolution process often includes gaming. Developed as a vehicle to help us interact with the world and address issues, the theoretical framework for HeXie Management Theory consists of a Vision and Mission, the HeXie Theme, the He Principle, the Xie Principle, the Coupling of He and Xie Principles, HeXie Leadership, and HeXie Expansion, etc. The Vision and Mission provide the positioning and long-term goal for development and are relatively stable and strategic.

The HeXie Theme is a medium-term goal for a specific period that contains some key issues to be solved and can be adjusted over time. The Xie Principle provides the rules and propositions to reduce uncertainty through thoughtful design and optimisation of systems, processes, and structures. The He Principle gives the rules and propositions that encourage the initiative among participants to adapt to the uncertainty – this is applied mainly through incentive mechanisms, establishing the workplace environment, culture building, and the cultivation of innovation ecosystems.

The Coupling of He and Xie Principles is the mechanism and dynamic adjusting process that responds to UACC (Uncertainty, Ambiguity, Complexity, and Changeability) by incorporating the principles of He and Xie with the specific HeXie Theme, in line with the Vision and Mission.

Leadership is playing a vital role in identifying the organisation’s Vision and Mission, as well as the HeXie Theme. In a UACC environment, when we are facing managerial issues within a specific context, we need to first identify the HeXie Theme in this period based on the organisation’s Vision and Mission. Next, appropriate He Principles, Xie Principles, and their coupling mechanism need to be specified according to the HeXie Theme. These should be dynamically adjusted in line with the environment and the operational status to enter the next “Vision and Mission-HeXie Theme-He Principle and Xie Principle-HeXie Coupling” circle.

Faced with the new challenges brought about by emerging technologies and the increasingly reinforced UACC world, people need to adopt a shift in mindset, whether they are actively involved or passively involved, to adapt to the paradigm revolution or reshaping of life, work, and society. The transformation of mindset is a transition from the familiar “simple mode” of the relatively stable and straightforward era to a new mindset that can survive in the UACC environment.

Combining the results of comprehensive thinking from philosophy, experience, art, science, technology, etc., it is proposed that this new mindset is the “HeXie Mindset”. This concept includes the following aspects: Fostering the Vision & Mission oriented system view and dynamic evolution; Forming the sense of direction of HeXie Theme thinking; Construction of the symbiotic system by coupling the Xie Principle & He Principle; Supporting HeXie Coupling through the capacity of syntegration and balance; Breaking through the status quo via edge innovation.

In the interconnected digital intelligent world, the systematic and evolutionary view provided by the HeXie Management Theory enables us to gain a comprehensive understanding of different issues at different levels and different phases. Its problem-solving mechanism (i.e. the Coupling of He and Xie Principles under the guidance of HeXie Theme) could give us a sense of direction, enhance the consensus of various stakeholders, and eventually form the problem-solving community and alternatives. All of these lay the solid foundation of the symbiosis relationship. And then, the symbiotic ecosystem could be established based on the Coupling of the He Principle and Xie Principle.

HeXie Management Theory not only provides insights on the establishment of the symbiotic ecosystem but also guides the route to gain eco-dividend. First, to realise the benefit of sharing and symbiosis of stakeholders (i.e. dividend) by breaking the boarders, integrating, balancing, and leading edge-innovation. Then, the positive effect of the ecosystem could be further amplified by encouraging the diffusion of regional effects and providing feedback to reach exponential amplification. This mechanism could be expressed as δeco=δ1+δ2+δ3, where δ denotes ecosystem effect or dividend, δ1 denotes the dividend from breaking the boarders, δ2 denotes the symbiosis dividend realised through collaboration and innovation, δ3 is the dividend realised from the enhancement of the ecosystem’s compatibility and the ability of extension.
