E. Dimitris Kitis

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics teaching modules concerned with an interdisciplinary view of language and society. I hold a PhD in Sociolinguistics from the Centre for Language, Discourse and Communication at King's College London and have been a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Linguistics at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. I have also lectured (part-time) for the MA Language in Society at Kingston University, London. My research interests lie at the intersection of Sociolinguistics and Discourse Analysis, with a particular focus on subcultures and their discourses, protest, conflict, urban space, political discourse, new communication technologies and the mass media. I have also been increasingly interested in Multilingualism, pidgins and creoles in Africa and beyond, World Englishes and Postcolonial Theory.
