Department of Literary and Translation Studies

The Department of Literary and Translation Studies is home to a vibrant, dynamic, and dedicated team of local and global scholars. It is integral to the strong teaching, learning, and research culture at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Our research values diversity, inclusiveness, and cross-disciplinarity, and covers a broad range of areas across literary and translation studies. We provide insights into areas of romanticism and gothic studies, comparative literature, postcolonial studies, cultural translation, audio-visual translation, translation education, translation technology, and interpreting studies.

Staff in the Department of Literary and Translation Studies teach a complete suite of modules in the flagship literature pathway of four English programmes:  BA English Studies, BA English and Communication Studies, BA English and International Business, and BA English and Finance. Our curriculum covers an extensive range of literary periods and movements, from Shakespeare to present day.

The Department has a fast-growing BA Translation and Interpreting programme that aims to develop students into high-calibre, effective translators, interpreters, and cultural negotiators who will bring China to the world, and the world to China.

We are keen to supervise PhD projects that fall within our diverse research expertise and to expand our existing postgraduate community.

The Department of Literary and Translation Studies is a part of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
