Urban regeneration training programme under the concept of Green Development in Wujiang District
After the National People’s Congress(NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC) in 2021, urban regeneration has been elevated to a national strategy at the central level and entered the legalization stage at the local level, becoming the key to unlocking urban development space, stimulating vitality and innovation, and promoting urban transformation in the future. But how can we understand the essence of urban regeneration, fully appreciate its complexity and diversity, scientifically and effectively revitalise functions, overcome difficulties and guarantee implementation? How can we protect the genes of our cities, while finding value and creating value? It requires joint discussion and exploration from all walks of life, as well as participation and action as policy makers and implementers.
The programme was organized by Wujiang District Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, Organization Department of the CPC Wujiang District Committee, School of the CPC Wujiang District Committee, and hosted by University Research Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (UES) at XJTLU. A total of 45 young and middle-aged cadres from the Organization Department of the CPC Wujiang District Committee, Wujiang District Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, Local Construction Bureau and institutions at many levels attended. The lecturers is a combination of the international team from XJTLU and local experts to develop the participants’ Eastern and Western perspectives and convergent thinking. The aim was to enhance the international perspective and forward thinking of the cadres of the authorities based on domestic and international development realities, trends, ideas and methods, to stimulate vitality and innovation, and to help Wujiang take the lead in exploring organic, inclusive and substantial urban regeneration paths. The programme promoted reflective learning among participants and was generally well received. In addition to the XJTLU platform, it was reported by Famous City Suzhou(2500sz News), Wujiang District Natural Resources and Planning Bureau and SCP.
