Our academic reputation

We are a pioneering, international joint venture university located in the city of Suzhou on China’s east coast. We are proud of our focus on research-led learning inherited from our parent institutions, the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool were far ahead of the curve in terms of the visioning of this unique partnership.

In order to further strengthen our reputation, we uphold high standards in hiring academic staff. All must have been trained at globally distinguished universities and research institutes and have rich teaching and research experience. Collectively they bring an enormous range of expertise and innovative thinking to XJTLU. XJTLU's hiring practices meet the highest standards. The University has established interdisciplinary research institutes, centres and laboratories, focusing on a broad range of topics including biopharmaceutical science, design, quantitative finance and urbanisation.

UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL

The University of Liverpool, founded in 1881, is ranked 178 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The University of Liverpool is a member of the Russell Group of 20 research-led UK universities, which includes the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and Imperial College London, and is associated with eight Nobel Prize winners. The UK-wide Research Excellence Framework 2021 classed 91% of the University of Liverpool’s research as world leading (the highest classification) or internationally excellent (the second highest classification).

XI'AN JIAOTONG UNIVERSITY

Founded in 1896, Xi’an Jiaotong University is consistently ranked within the top 15 universities in China. It is a leading research-intensive university, focusing on science and technology subjects. It was prioritised by the State Council of China in the national Project 211 and Project 985, which both aim to strengthen universities in China to create world-class institutions.
