Graduates of the joint training programme will be awarded a master’s degree from the University of Liverpool (which is officially recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education), along with the corresponding certificate from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).
The programme adopts an internationally recognised application-based admission system, and applicants are not required to take the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination.
The duration of study ranges from 1.5 to 2 years. Students may receive scholarships covering up to 100% of the tuition fees. In addition, during participation in industry research projects, professional research institutes or enterprise innovation centres under JITRI provide generous research and living allowances.
The university offers an international faculty team and campus environment, with over 90% of academic staff having overseas study or work experience.
A rigorous quality assurance system is in place, and multiple programmes and disciplines have received accreditation from international professional organisations.
All programmes are taught in English, helping students enhance their academic competence, global perspective, and cross-cultural communication skills.
The programmes integrate interest-driven learning, research-oriented education, and interdisciplinary study to cultivate students’ innovative thinking and lifelong learning abilities.
Joint supervision mechanism: students are jointly supervised by an XJTLU academic supervisor and an industry supervisor approved by the XJTLU Graduate School, forming an integrated model that combines industry, research, and talent development within a new industry-academia-research collaborative training framework.
Students participate in cutting-edge industry research projects: real technical challenges proposed by leading enterprises are transformed into postgraduate research topics. Under the guidance of dual supervisors, students conduct high-level frontier research supported by extensive industrial resources, advanced research facilities, and diverse international academic exchange networks.
Outstanding students in the joint training programme will be given priority employment opportunities within JITRI-affiliated research institutes or partner leading enterprises after graduation, and may also have opportunities to be recommended for PhD study at top overseas partner universities of JITRI.
Located in Suzhou and adjacent to Shanghai, XJTLU benefits from its strategic position within the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone — one of China’s most economically developed regions and home to numerous Fortune Global 500 companies — providing students with extensive international internship and career opportunities.
