Strategic Importance and Positioning

AFCT is poised to meet these challenges through the integration of media, creative technology, and entrepreneurship to train students through syntegrative education and to develop leaders in new areas of creative industries. The Academy will integrate innovation, scientific research and industry resources, to promote the development of China’s Creative Technology and Film industrialisation (see Diagram 1)

Creative technology can be seen as any art, digital product design, or media made with electronics, software, or data-driven engines. The term covers a wide range of uses and can include any of the following multi-sensory experiences:

  • Computer graphics
  • Video production & editing
  • Digital cinematography
  • Virtual reality and augmented reality
  • Digital audio technologies
  • Software engineering
  • 3D printing
  • Internet of things
  • Computer-aided design and manufacturing
  • Wearable technology.

The digital creative industry has been identified as one of the strategic emerging industries in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan. This emergent industry is one of the developing cornerstones of the ‘networked era’, focusing on the promotion and generation of culture, content, and copyright, driving the development of surrounding industries.

Suggestions for meeting the demand for the future digital creative industry include:

  • Establishing key projects and research centres focusing on digital creative technology
  • Improving the quality of talent in the digital creative technology field
  • Actively participating in international cooperation and bringing Chinese culture to a wider audience.
